:: Welcome to ryankself.com. My name, as you have most likely figured out by now, is Ryan K. Self. I live in Aurora, Colorado with my wife, my two sons, and my small, evil cat. I was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, and I grew up (mostly) in Bellingham, Washington. I went to Western Washington University and graduated in 1999 with a Bachelor's Degree in East Asian Studies and a minor in Chinese (Mandarin). I moved to China shortly thereafter and taught English at Shanghai University for two years. I met my would-be wife there, and we came back to the US to get married in 2001. Right after that, we moved to Colorado and both began working on becoming public school teachers. We had our first son, Jonah, in early 2005 the old fashioned way. I say that because in 2008 we adopted our second son, Grady, from China. And because I think I'm funny.

:: I finished the elementary licensure program at the University of Colorado at Denver in December of 2003 and began teaching for Aurora Public Schools. At the same time, I began the Information and Learning Technologies K-12 Master's Degree program at the University of Colorado at Denver. I graduated with my Information and Learning Technologies K-12 Master's Degree in August of 2005, and I plan on completing my school library endorsement program in May of 2008.

:: Which leads me to where I am now. I am the technology teacher and electives team leader at Wheat Ridge Middle School. I love teaching technology, teaching with technology, and helping others do the same. I also love working with students who are learning literacy skills and the English language, and Wheat Ridge Middle School offers me plenty of those opportunities.

:: At the risk of seeming yet more geeky than I already have, let me express my wish that you view this Web site in something that is not Internet Explorer. In my opinion, Explorer is a silly browser that takes things that should be pretty and makes them a jumbled mess.
